Obama's warning on outsourcing

Barack Obama today (August 29) accepted his historic nomination as the first black candidate to top a major US political party. A t his historic acceptance speech in Denver, speaking to a live audience of over 75,000 people and millions of other viewers across America and around the world - Barack Obama outlined several of his national policies.
The one in particular that might be of concern to India Inc are his policies on outsourcing. Obama indicated in no uncertain terms that if he is elected to office - he will implement policies that will discourage firms from offshoring and instead give tax breaks to companies that retain jobs in America.Speaking at the historic convention Obama said, "You know, unlike John McCain, I will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America."Reactions on Obama's comment have been coming in thick and fast from IT companies in India - NASSCOM Chief Som Mittal said - Politics aside, American firms will have to decide about offshoring for themselves. Mohandas Pai, Director HR, Infosys said, "American industry has accepted well the outsourcing story. Outsourcig has enhanced America's position and I am sure policy maker's appreciate it. There is no great concern, we'll just have to wait and see"

However, this isn't the first time that Barack Obama has delivered a strong anti-outsourcing pitch – in fact during a debate with his former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton - Barack Obama had gone as far to say that goods made off-shore are making Americans sick. "We can't have medicines that are actually making people more sick instead of better because they're produced overseas, Obama said.

During a another rally in Ohio, Obama had said, " We're here because there are workers in Youngstown, Ohio, who've watched job after job after job disappear because of bad trade deals....They need us to end those tax breaks that go to companies that ship jobs overseas."
